At an early age this New Forest composer discovered he could improvise on the piano. As if by magic, his hands would not only reproduce the tunes in his head but somehow seemed to know what harmonies were needed to convert a melody into a piece music.

But improvisation is transient by nature and not in a form which can be performed again either by the composer or others. It is like building a sandcastle on the beach, which however impressive, is immediately washed away by the incoming tide.
